Electric Earthing System

What is Earthing

Accessories for Earthing System

Socket: For this we need 3 pin socket. You are clearly shown in the picture about this. These 3 pin sockets have the bottom left and phase. And the right side is neutral and the top single head is called Earth Pin.

Factors Measuring Earthing System Resistance

Suitability of the soil: If the soil is dry then only the resistance of the soil will be there and at the same time if the soil is wet then that resistance will be less. So it is these conditions which are the first factor of Earthing Resistance.

Soil Temperature : It totally works like suitability of soil.

Soil Moisture Probability: What is the amount of moisture found in the soil? If the moisture is more then the resistance will be less at that time and at the same time if the moisture is less then the resistance will be high.

Size of Earth Electrode: When the Electrode is buried in the pit, what is its size at that time. This is also a huge factor. Normally the size should be two to three meters for this.

Types of Earthing System

There are mainly five types of it, which are shown below, they are as follows:

  • Earthing to Water Main
  • Pipe Earthing
  • Plate Earthing
  • Strip Earthing
  • Rod Earthing

We will discuss only 2 types here that is pipe earthing and plate earthing, we will discuss both of them because both of them are the best and safest way to do in earthing system.

Pipe Earthing

Usually a pipe is used in this, so we call it pipe earthing. In this, the length of the pipe is 2500 mm (98.4 Inches) and its width is 400 mm (15.74). The main pipe used in this is Galvanized Iron.

How to install pipe earthing

Suppose you have an electrical equipment and you want to earth it. When we earthing the pipe in it, there should be a distance of about 1200mm (4.72 Inches) between it and the pipe. To do this complete earthing system, we need to make a hole of 3000 mm (118.1102 Inches).

And the width of the pit should be 600 mm (23.62 Inches). as well as the earth wire 200 mm (7.87) must be buried in the ground. When this whole process is correct, we have to put stuff in the pipe in the form of a layer, like pouring coal first and then adding salt, then coal, then salt, this process has to be done in this way.

Important Things for Note
For high tension, please use 8 SWG wire whose diameter should be 4 mm (0.15 Inches).
For low tension please use 10 SWG wire whose diameter should be 3.25 mm (0.127 inches).
